A Wonderful Place to Live
During the pandemic we had to close the butterfly garden. When we were able to open again the garden was in need of repair. Instead of turning to a bank for a traditional loan where they profit, we turned to our community for help. Our idea was simple; We pledged to ‘pay forward’ every dollar that was donated to restore the butterfly garden to organizations working to better our community in other ways. In this way we turned a one time investment in a single business into a sustainable engine for community development. You can read the names of our generous sponsors when you visit Él Mariposario.
Organizations we have pledged to support
100% of the profits we generate from selling entrances to the butterfly garden will be donated to the following organizations on a rotating basis:
- Wild Sun Wildlife Rescue Center
- ASVO Turtle conservation program
- ADIM (Montezuma Community Development Program)
- Montezuma, Cabuya, Delicias Elementary schools.
- Tambor Bay Turtle conservation program
- Casa de Restauración (A shelter for women who have suffered from domestic violence)
- Somos Congos (protecting primates in the Cobano area)
- Youth sports and music programs, Asociación Deportiva Montezuma
Special Fundraising Events
In addition to the profits we donation from our entrance fees we regularly host special fundraising events on the grounds. These events can include raffles and lotteries, music, special food and drink menus, silent auctions. We’ve even had a tattoo artist raising funds by selling tattoos in the garden.
